Description

The Schluter TREP E Stair Nosing Profile is a stainless steel profile that has a special non slip tread to create safe and attractive stair edges. It features an anchoring leg to suit installation in conjunction with tiles.

The Schluter TREP E Stair Nosing Profile is available in the following internal height sizes: 2mm, 3mm, 5mm, 8mm, 11mm, 13mm, 16mm and 25mm. All sizes are available in lengths of 2.5, 1.5 or 1 metres. Please note: The marine grade stainless steel (V4A) variant is only available in 8mm, 11mm, 13mm and 16mm internal height sizes.

The Schluter TREP E Stair Nosing Profile can be integrated into stairs covered with tile or natural stone, as well as into a screed or surface coating that is a minimum 2mm thick. The profile is especially suited for applications in building areas with heavy foot traffic, such as commercial areas or public buildings. It protects the front edges of stairs and adds a high degree of safety due to the special slip resistant design of the tread (test certificate by the Institute for Occupational Safety (IFA), slip resistance classification group R10 V6) and the excellent visibility of the step nosings. Also available is a matching end cap for neat finishing of the end of the profile – the Schluter TREP E V4A/EK End Cap. This end cap is made from V4A Stainless Steel and can be used with profiles made from both V2A and V4A stainless steel.

This profile is also available without an anchoring leg – the Schluter TREP EK Stair Nosing Profile – for adhering to the edges of existing stair nosings and well suited for retro-fit installation over damaged edges, eliminating the need to replace the entire step.

The Schluter TREP E profile is available in standard stainless steel (V2A) or marine grade stainless steel (V4A). The suitability of a proposed type of profile must be verified based on the anticipated chemical, mechanical, and/or other stresses. The Schluter TREP E Profile is particularly well suited for applications that, in addition to heavy mechanical stresses, require resistance to chemicals (e.g. exposure to acids, alkalis, oils, greases and solvents). Even stainless steel is not resistant to all chemical stresses, and may be affected by hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acid or certain chloride and brine concentrations. Special anticipated stresses should therefore be verified in advance. Depending on the anticipated chemical stresses, customers can choose between the alloy materials V2A or V4A.

Schluter TREP E Stair Nosing Profile Installation:

  1. Select the appropriate Schluter TREP E profile according to the tile thickness.
  2. In a first step, align the covering material at the riser.
  3. Apply a suitable tile adhesive to the edge area above the riser.
  4. Fill the hollow spaces on the underside of the profile with suitable tile adhesive. Note for step 3 and 4: In case of thicker adhesive layers in the edge area, it may be necessary to add sand to the dry setting thin bed adhesive in accordance with manufacturer instructions.
  5. Embed the Schluter TREP E profile fully into the adhesive bed and align the profile in such a way that the front edge of the profile covers the riser tile or is flush with its edge as an alternative.
  6. Trowel additional setting material over the trapezoid perforated anchoring leg and the contact area to ensure full coverage.
  7. Solidly embed the horizontal tiles and align them flush with the top edge of the profile. The tiles must be fully embedded in the area of the profile.
  8. Leave a joint of approximately 2 mm to the profile.
  9. Completely fill the space between the tile and the profile with grout.
  10. When integrating the Schluter TREP E profile into screed layers, fully embed the profile in the mortar and cover the trapezoid perforated anchoring leg with at least 15 mm of screed mortar.
  11. When using surface coatings, Schluter TREP E is adhered to the edge of the stair tread and adjusted in such a way that the front edge of the profile is flush with the riser. The trapezoid perforated anchoring leg is covered completely with the surface coating, so that the finished surface is flush with the profile. If applicable, the profile has to be cleaned and degreased prior to installation. As an alternative, the profile can also be installed flush with the edge of the riser tile as shown in the drawing “Installation variant for Schluter TREP E.”
