Schluter TREP B Stair Nosing Profile

Description

The Schluter TREP B Stair Nosing Profile is a special profile for creating slip resistant and visually attractive stair nosings. The Schluter TREP B Stair Nosing Profile is designed for use in areas subjected to heavy foot-traffic, such as offices or public buildings, and features a 52mm wide tread surface that can be replaced in case of damage or wear.

The Schluter TREP B Stair Nosing Profile is for use on steps with tiled coverings and protects the step’s front edge while the special slip resistant PVC tread is designed to increase visual awareness, adding a high degree of safety to stairs.

The Schluter TREP B Stair Nosing Profile is comprised of an aluminium support profile and a separate PVC tread. The support profile is made from extruded aluminium, and features a perforated anchoring leg that is securely embedded in tile adhesive underneath the leading edge of the tile. Aluminium is sensitive to alkaline media. Cementitious materials, in conjunction with moisture, become alkaline. Exposure to the alkali (depending on the concentration and time of exposure) may result in corrosion. Therefore, it is important to ensure that the Schluter TREP B Stair Nosing Profile is solidly embedded in the setting material and that all cavities are filled to prevent the accumulation of alkaline water.

The tread insert of the Schluter TREP B Stair Nosing Profile has a soft coloured PVC, slip-resistant tread surface with a rigid PVC core that fits into the aluminium support profile, measuring 52mm in width with a slip class rating of R9. The tread insert is available in the following colours: CG Yellow, G Grey, GS Black, HB Light Beige, NB Nut Brown.

The Schluter TREP B Stair Nosing Profile is available in the following internal height sizes: 8mm, 10mm, 12.5mm, 15mm and 25mm. Each size is available in 1m, 1.5 and 2.5m lengths.

This stair nosing profile is also available in a narrow (26mm) version – the Schluter TREP S Stair Nosing Profile.

Installation:

1. Select the appropriate Schluter TREP B Stair Nosing Profile according to the tile thickness.
2. Align the covering material at the riser.
3. Apply a suitable tile adhesive to the edge area above the step riser.
4. Fill the hollow spaces on the underside of the profile with suitable tile adhesive. Note: For steps 3 and 4: In case of thicker adhesive layers in the edge area, it may be necessary to add sand to the dry-setting thin bed adhesive in accordance with manufacturer instructions or to use a medium bed mortar.
5. Embed the Schluter TREP B Stair Nosing Profile fully into the adhesive bed and align the profile in such a way that the front edge of the support profile is flush with the riser tile.
6. Trowel additional setting material over the trapezoid perforated anchoring leg and the tread of the stair step to ensure full coverage.
7. Solidly embed the horizontal tiles and align them flush with the top edge of the profile. Full coverage must be obtained between the tile and the profile’s anchoring leg.
8. Leave a gap of approx. 2 mm between the tile and the profile.
9. Completely fill the space between the tile and the profile with grout.
10. The front edge cover profile Schluter TREP TAP can only be used in conjunction with the Schluter TREP B Stair Nosing Profile, if required. The profile is either inserted laterally through the designated groove or snapped into place from below. Attach the back of the Schluter TREP TAP profile to the riser with Schluter KERDI FIX adhesive.
