Brush-In Tile Grout
Brush-In Tile Grout, also known as jointing compound or polymeric sand, is a ready-to-use paving material designed to fill the gaps between outdoor tiles or paving slabs by simply sweeping it into the joints. Unlike traditional grout that requires manual spreading with a float, this type is applied using a stiff-bristled brush or broom.
Key Characteristics:
Ease of Use: Brush-In Tile Grout is highly favoured by DIYers because it requires no specialist skills and is often pre-mixed in the tub.
Permeability: Most brush-in grouts are permeable, allowing rainwater to drain through the joints into the ground rather than pooling on the surface.
Weather Versatility: Many formulas can be applied in various weather conditions, including rain, which is a major advantage for outdoor projects.
Maintenance: Once set, it helps prevent weed growth and moss formation between slabs.
Common Application Methods:
There are two primary ways to apply brush-in tile grout depending on the product and the base:
Wet Method: The patio is thoroughly wetted first. The grout is then poured out and swept into the joints while adding more water to help it settle and compact. This is generally the recommended method as it reduces the risk of staining.
Dry Method: The dry mixture is brushed into the joints of a dry patio. This is typically used when the paving is laid on an impermeable base where excess water cannot drain away.
